The Last Song

here's a double whammy - book and movie review... so I saw the movie The Last Song earlier this year via netflix instant que... amaaazing. You absolutely fall in love with the cast [cute boy] and the story [cute boy] and get all sorts of wrapped up in everything [cute boy] - did I  mention there is a cute boy in it?
Yeah, hello Liam Hemsworth.... [fun fact: he is cast in Gale in The Hunger Games movie!] - anyways, back to the movie... I thoroughly enjoyed it - I laughed, cried and here's the jist of it Ronnie (played by (s)miley cyrus) a "rebellious former piano prodigy" is sent off to Georgia to spend the summer with her dad, she's a complete asshat to her dad [and everyone around her] until she meets Will [insert dreamy sigh].. I don't want to get into to much more without giving away major plot points, but its a great flick and touches on life, love and family.

So then, my MIL and I traded Kindles so she could read Something Borrowed and The Help [soo good] and she had the Nicholas Sparks novel "The Last Song" that the movie was based off of -- I loved it. I don't know if I enjoyed both so much because I saw the film before I read the book but I thought the movie was a great interpretation of the story.  The book was a little different on a few smaller plot lines... the one major thing that I loved about the book was that it was set in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach [where I lived for almost four years]... such a beautiful part of the country and I could just picture every place they talked about. The book is a quick read and definitely great travel/pool material! I recommend both wholeheartedly, just get ready to shed some tears and let out a few laughs.

  1. I loved The Last Song, I read the book before the movie came out. Therefore, I was less awed by the movie (but I still enjoyed it). I liked the way the book gave more background on the characters, especially the plot between the two girls and the theft incident.
Glad you finally got to read it :)

  4. I read the book first and love love loved it. It is definitely my favorite Nicholas Sparks book. Then I watched the movie and I love love LOVED it!

Everyone I know hated it...I couldn't understand why. I thought it was amazing!

Fun fact: Nicholas Sparks was asked to write a new screenplay specifically for Miley Cyrus to play the main character. After he wrote the screenplay (The Last Song) he wrote the book.

  5. This is a great one--so many tears! They do match up well, I found out Nicholas Sparks actually wrote the novel along with the screenplay, so for once there aren't too many differences. Of course anything set in Southeast NC is going to be a gem!
