So after two days of fist-pumping in NJ we headed to Philly and of course our first stop was to visit the site of one of the greatest debates of Philadelphia history [at least in our gluttonous minds]...
Geno's...
...or Pat's...
Both of these fine [cash-only] establishments are on the corner of 9th Street and Passyunk Ave...The lines were tremendous and wrapped around the buildings at both places so DJ and I waited in one line [Pat's] and bought two cheesesteaks and DJ's folks waited in the other [Geno's] and bought two cheesesteaks... then we got back together and split one of each... now as an extreme expert in cheesesteaks [I think I've maybe had three before this trip] I have to say the clear winner is....
Pat's...
oh cheez-whiz, you get me every time. But seriously, Pat's was much cheesier [hence much better]. Truth be told, I wasn't blown away by either and everyone said we shouldn't even go there and go to Jim's because those are the really the best... but we were tourists and wanted to do the touristy famous thing, so we did. In hindsight, I'm glad we did but next time I'm definitely going to Jim's! This type of thing makes me want to create a food bucket list [eat this here, eat that there, etc but that involves traveling and traveling involves money, maybe next year....].
have you experienced Geno's, Pat's or Jim's?
where is your favorite Philly cheesesteak from?
what would be on your "food bucket list"?
what would be on your "food bucket list"?
yummeee! Looks so good! Honestly, I have never had a philly cheese steak sandwich...BUT if I would be close to any of these fine places, I would say that I would have to try it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can never get over your photography skillz! You do an amazing job? Do you shoot in Manual or just have an amazing eye for how to take photos?!
Oh man, Brian and I dream of taking food centered trips. We hear about restaurants and then figure out vacations around them. In fact, I have told Brian I MUST go back to the ATL sometimes soon to go to FlipBurger and try the Krispy Kreme milkshake. Charleston is also on my list, purely for food related reasons. I'm sure it's a lovely city, but I only know about the restaurants. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Philly but the cheesesteaks do look yummy. Glad you had a fun trip!

Oh my that looks delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteGod I'm hungry! I thought it was supposed to be pepper jack cheese?
ReplyDeleteThough I grew up on the Pittsburgh side of PA (and therefore should never admit going to Philly and liking cheese steaks)....I would have to say that Pat's is much better than Geno's -- it really is all about the cheese!
ReplyDelete"the cheesier the better" is my motto as well!
ReplyDeleteHands down...Jim's is the best!
