pride and prejudice...

"I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine." - Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
I recently finished re-reading Pride and Prejudice, I haven't read it in over a decade and so easily fell back in love with the characters, story and Austen's style of writing. As someone who often is caught reading chick-lit fluff it was great to read a book of true substance. Many critics say that Pride and Prejudice is the greatest love story ever told, I just might be inclined to agree [clearly, other than mine - hah. kidding]. Seriously though - I caught myself just smiling and sighing as I read the book falling utterly in love with the characters to where I literally couldn't stop smiling when I finished the book.
Then... I watched the movie again. Now, I know the book is always better than the movie but still, I have to admit I really, really like the 2006 movie version of Pride and Prejudice. Yes, they clearly changed the ending [originally just in the US because we like things "sugary sweet" - funny, but true], but I loved every minute of it. If you haven't read it in awhile or ever, I recommend you pick it up soon. The great news is if you have an ereader or iPad you can download it for free! Let's be real, I love free. I'm currently reading Emma and am again being reminded why Jane Austen is such an esteemed author and said to be ahead of her time - for lack of a more eloquent way of saying it - she's really good.

Just to make my heart happy and to hopefully give you a taste [or reminder] of the amazingness that is Pride and Prejudice here are a few of my favorite quotes from the book...

"Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life."

"A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment."

"Stupid men are the only ones worth knowing after all."

"They were within twenty yards of each other, and so abrupt was his appearance, that it was impossible to avoid his sight.  Their eyes instantly met, and the cheeks of both were overspread with the deepest blush"

in closing, if you haven't already...

with all that being said, run out and read the book. not feeling too literate? watch the movie. either way, you'll be left with your feeling a little lighter and more filled with love.
oh yeah, one last thing about Pride and Prejudice... Lydia is a whore.
The End.

a whole lot of nothing... and max turning one!

what a great [and relaxing] weekend... we hung out with DJ's folks on Friday night, had dinner at home and ventured out to the mall to pick up a few things and grabbed frozen yogurt [I could eat strawberry frozen yogurt for every meal, no lie]. Then we came home and watched Just Go With It... it was hysterical. I mean, clearly it was a predictable romantic comedy but I laughed so hard and love Jennifer Aniston [Team Aniston for life] and Adam Sandler so I loved it! I'd definitely watch it again... soon. Hmm, maybe this one will go back on the netflix queue!
Just Go With It

Then on Saturday I learned why it's important not to take a week off from running when I nearly barfed after running two miles [out of shape much?] but I pulled it together and walked/ran the last mile... DJ came back after running two laps around the lake [4.4 miles] in almost the same amount of time it took me to run 3 [lets just pretend I ran the whole time] and proclaimed that he beat a high school cross country kid... the little victories in life.

In other news, I will run at least three nights this week if it kills me. After my near barfing experience at the lake we headed home and got ready for Max's 1st birthday party. Of course, my arch-nemesis Atlanta Traffic decided to be a little bitch and a drive that usually takes us around an hour took us THREE. awesome. I'm proud of myself though, I showed self-restraint and didn't hit the bottle when we got to the party... which made for an uber productive Sunday! The party was a great time with family and we had a blast with the kids including the birthday boy...
Saturday night we finished up at the party, and headed over to Brookwood Grill for dinner - it was so good [I'm already trying to plan a return visit]. I had the Peppercorn Seared Tuna Steak Salad - which was great! I can't lie though, the best part about dinner at Brookwood for me was the rolls... croissants with honey butter... I might have eaten two [and a half] - they were too good to say no [I told myself that the last one was my dessert so it was okay].

Sunday consisted of lots of cleaning, errand running, playing with Ollie and of course... we ended the night with... frozen yogurt [duh] - yes, I'm aware I have a problem. Then my mother-in-law, DJ and I watched New Moon... let's be real - the best part about watching New Moon was watching DJ watch New Moon... it was pretty darn entertaining. What's that? You want to see a picture of my froyo I ate on Sunday (that looks pretty much just like the one I ate on Friday)?
...now only four sleeps until I'm off to Knoxville and Asheville to celebrate Lindi's 30th birthday, let the countdown begin!

The Last Song

here's a double whammy - book and movie review... so I saw the movie The Last Song earlier this year via netflix instant que... amaaazing. You absolutely fall in love with the cast [cute boy] and the story [cute boy] and get all sorts of wrapped up in everything [cute boy] - did I  mention there is a cute boy in it?
Yeah, hello Liam Hemsworth.... [fun fact: he is cast in Gale in The Hunger Games movie!] - anyways, back to the movie... I thoroughly enjoyed it - I laughed, cried and here's the jist of it Ronnie (played by (s)miley cyrus) a "rebellious former piano prodigy" is sent off to Georgia to spend the summer with her dad, she's a complete asshat to her dad [and everyone around her] until she meets Will [insert dreamy sigh].. I don't want to get into to much more without giving away major plot points, but its a great flick and touches on life, love and family.

So then, my MIL and I traded Kindles so she could read Something Borrowed and The Help [soo good] and she had the Nicholas Sparks novel "The Last Song" that the movie was based off of -- I loved it. I don't know if I enjoyed both so much because I saw the film before I read the book but I thought the movie was a great interpretation of the story.  The book was a little different on a few smaller plot lines... the one major thing that I loved about the book was that it was set in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach [where I lived for almost four years]... such a beautiful part of the country and I could just picture every place they talked about. The book is a quick read and definitely great travel/pool material! I recommend both wholeheartedly, just get ready to shed some tears and let out a few laughs.

The Help

If you haven't already read this book, please do - now. I can't even begin to do the book justice but I will tell you that you were laugh, cry and just feel for all of the women in this book [you'll even hate a few, I know I did].

To be honest, Sarah told me to read it MONTHS ago and I picked it up one day at the store but just didn't feel connected... I should have known to listen to Sarah - clearly, she hasn't led me astray [other than all that zombie crap].

In other news, I can't wait to see the movie and see what they do with the characters and how they change the plot... I have some ideas. The only thing that makes me sad is that I want to know more... this is one of those books that you finish and are begging for a sequel/series... oh well, on to the next book!

Here's the preview for the movie to give you an idea of the plot...

hey bookie bookie... [2 more books read]

I've been slacking on the reading thing.. I blame my iPhone [i heart iPhone games], Weeds, and my eyes [they've been tired lately]. Also Hit Reply took me awhile to get through, I knew what happened so I just wasn't motivated to finish it... anyways, I need to get cracking if I want to get anywhere near my goal of 100 books this year!

18. Hit Reply
Hit Reply
I'm not going to lie... it was hard finishing Hit Reply this time around... this is the third or fourth time I've read it and I was least interested in it this time... it's not a great literary work - it's just entertaining. Fun. Quirky. Different style. [The entire book is comprised of emails and IMs] Good beach/cruise read if that's what you're looking for! Careful, might tempt you to contact that high school love that got away! :)

 19. The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones
This is probably the third time I've read The Lovely Bones... [I'm on a re-reading saving money kick]... it was just as haunting and captivating as the first two times I've read it. I read this book in a single sitting [thank you airtran for your flight delays] and just fell into it. I'm debating if I want to see the movie... I just can't bring myself to watch this movie or My Sister's Keeper... I feel like I'll just be disappointed so what's the point? Anyways, if you're looking for a captivating and dark coming-of-age story The Lovely Bones is a great read!

My mom bought me a book at the airport [thanks moms] so I'm excited to read a fresh book, I'll let you know how it is ASAP!

Post Grad

Oh, Post Grad... This movie is hilarious. Go. Buy. It. NOW. Clearly, not Oscar material but total girly-movie-sloth-day worthy. First, I love Alexis Bledel - who doesn't? [Gilmore Girls = Amazing] Second, I laughed really REALLY hard, a LOT of times. Third, hello cute boys. Add a random family dynamic and things you can relate to oh too well and you have a girly classic.

We got this off netflix and I was nice enough to not make DJ watch it with me and just watched it when he was designing and/or working late. He should thank me - I don't think it would be his fav...

All in all -I'm just disappointed it took me so long to see it. Grab your favorite pair of VS Pink PJ pants, a comfy blanket and cuddle up with this one!
