10K!

I did it! I ran my first 10K this weekend! Well, I definitely did  not do as well as my 5K (not that I did so well in that either, haha) but I finished and that was the one goal I had for myself! We can't find the results online yet but I'm pretty sure I ran it in around 1:11 (so around an 11 minute pace overall - and I did walk up the monstrous hill that was around 1.5 miles in - sorry I was not running up that thing). Oh well, I did it a lot faster than everyone sitting on their couch not running, right?

DJ was great and ran the whole thing with me... which kinda sucks because the time he had in the last 10K he ran was like 3 minutes faster than the overall winning time for this one - oh well, he's sweet and stuck by his wife.

I was definitely sore on Sunday (and today) and am going to stick to this length for awhile. Awhile back I had planned to run a half-marathon at the end of October but it's just not going to work out -- maybe next Fall (or Spring) who knows!

First 5K!

This past Saturday I knocked another thing of my 30 before 30 list and ran my first 5K! I can't lie, I'm pretty darn excited about it. I met all of my goals [1. run the whole time, no walking 2. less than a 10 minute mile pace 3. beat the ladies pushing strollers] - heck yes! The course was SUPER hilly which definitely kicked my butt but overall, I felt good and am excited for our next 5K [on flat ground] to take a little time off [I know I can do better].

to top it off, we found out later that day that I had the fastest time in my age-range [25-29]... whaat?!

also, my super impressive husband was 3rd in his age range and oh yeah, 9th overall...
yup, he's a rockstar.

I'm so excited to have knocked something off my 30 before 30 bucket list and to start training for a 10K next!  I never thought I would run a 10K but DJ has been so supportive and encouraging. He keeps telling me that I'm in better shape than I think I'm in and could run one tomorrow if I wanted [he must be nuts]. Seriously though, the fact that he thinks I can do it really does makes me work harder and want to get better and stronger!

turkey trot!

guess who got her hungover husband up at 8:00am
on thanksgiving to go for a run?
that would be this gal!

we headed over to The Annual Great Barrington Turkey Trot with Jenny and Will where we had some running fun with our Crossfit buds... Will and Danny ran the 10K... Jenny and I ran the 2 miler....

I felt pretty good - I met my two goals (less than a 10 minute mile and to run the whole time) - I ran it in 19 minutes (9:30 pace) and came in 77th out of 158, not amazing - but considering I haven't run in months I'm proud of myself! My overachiever husband (who was still drunk) ran the 10K in 44:30 (7:10 pace) and came in 38th out of 183! Isn't he amazing?!

Did you trot before turkey too?

postal woes...

seriously. I don't even know where to begin. I'm having a hellacious day (for reasons I know are petty but still frustrate me). SO the wedding invites are out - including our RSVP postcard.... so when we originally printed the postcard I think they were 3x4... Lindi and I did 99 of them (stamping our address, writing the little number on the corner, and affixed the postage stamps) when we realized (thanks to Jenny) that they were too small to be mailed... I then did some googling and figured out that they needed to be 3x5 to be mailed (OH WAIT. They need to be 3.5 x 5).

So we went, got the postcards reprinted, did the whole process over again finished them and mailed the invites out - yesterday, no RSVPs came... which was weird because a lot of people told me they mailed theirs out.... so I started getting anxious... SO, today at work, I definitely re-googled the same questions and yup... they need to be 3.5 x 5 - rather than our 3x5.5... I feel like such an idiot and I'm SO frustrated.

I vented to Sarah, who was very patient with me (better than DJ that kept saying "relax" - sorry honey, that doesn't help). Finally, I calmed down and setup an RSVP system on our wedding webpage where people could RSVP.... and then sent out some emails to folks who were invited.

UGH so annoying... it's embarrasing, I thought I caught the problem and fixed it - but after all that work and effort we still screwed it up... oh well. Who knows, maybe the post office will deliver them (some? maybe? please?).... oh well. That's my wedding screw-up rant of the day... but people have been responsive to the webpage, I've had 10 people RSVP already! YAY....

Bet this wouldn't happen at Hogwarts.... ugh!

Anyways, in case you're wondering in my postal-guidelines-induced-rage I did not fall of the wagon... (although listening to the guy in the office next to mine order an eggroll with his chinese food is making me craaaaaaave)... I've been really good today too! Still no sugar and no bread and I did pretty well at crossfit last night, I ended up doing the modified "B" workout which was - 10 pullups (assisted by a band), 20 knees to elbows, 30 burpees, 1000m row - three times... I finished in 44 minutes and 18 seconds! The last one in my class to finish the B workout - but hey, I finished! And when I looked at the whiteboard of everyone's times throughout the day I didn't do too bad, I was faster than a few people, which is exciting... tonight's workout is an AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) workout with some lifting, sprints, and burpees.... so I'm psyched to see what I can pump out with lifting (wish me luck)!

Okay, off to eat my grapes and wallow in a sea of mis-sized postcards... UGH!

I feel skinnier already...

...okay, not really - but I can pretend.

day 2: no breads no sugars.... and I still have NOT fallen off the wagon (like the kitty pictured above) I'm still alive and I haven't knocked over a small child to steal his candy bar yet. I'm proud of myself, I've stayed strong and I could have had ample opportunity to cheat but I haven't. I keep picturing myself in my wedding dress and it makes it worth it.  yesterday was difficult - but we were (pretty) good....

things I ate: omelet, sausage (no bun), pickled veggies, chicken soup, clam chowder, calamari (maybe not good for me but so worth it).

things I said no to: toast, pancakes, eggs benedict (YUM), apple cider donuts, dessert....

aren't you proud? I'm realizing I need to start eating breakfast because 11:30am rolls around and I'm STARVING... today I had a bunless burger for lunch (leftovers from the dinner we made Saturday night), having apple and some carrots as a snack, and lots of water! Tonight,  I'm having salad for dinner and going to crossfit...

{via}

oh crossfit... I'm not going to lie - I love crossfit. It's kicking my butt in the best and worst kind of way - it's amazing how in pain I am after some workouts. I really do feel accomplished though - I'm doing things I never thought I could do and I feel myself improving and things getting (slightly) easier.  I climbed the rope a few weeks back for the first time EVER - it was an amazing feeling! I'm annoyed with myself because when I first moved to the berkshires DJ told me I should try it but I didn't because of money and I didn't think I could do it - now I realize that really anyone can do it - you just have to focus... I'm going to keep telling myself that as I'm stressing over today's workout --

Today's WOD of the day is:
Three rounds for time of:
20 L-pull-ups
Run 800 meters

I'm not too excited about running outside in the sleet and 36 degree weather - so I might be rowing instead, we'll see - it'll be a game day decision (based on whether or not I have an asthma attack WALKING to crossfit in the cold). And let's be honest, I cannot do L-pull-ups (YET) so it'll be interesting to see how that gets modified... oh man oh man. Also, I'll be doing knees to elbows as a modification because I can't do toes to bar (YET) either.... someone might have to carry me home after this doozy.

like I said, I love crossfit - I can feel the difference in my body (slightly) based on being just a tad more muscular... but honestly, there hasn't been much of a difference in the past month and I know exaclty why - I haven't changed my diet. SO - now that I'm commiting 100% eating right/working out I'm excited to (fingers crossed) see results!

Off to drink my water and eat my apple - send me healthy thoughts! :)
